This shopkeeper used an abacus to tally my purchase.
The temple gates that inspired Christo’s work in Central Park.
The artist above is creating the prayer/wish for my temple autograph book. After black ink come red stamps–each temple’s unique. It was easy to find at most temples in Kyoto–not other places. Beautiful fundraising instrument.
The above famous actor created a wonderful garden retreat now open to the public.

is the actor’s garden retreat inside Kyoto, or in Arashiyama, just outside? >

Ah! The expert eye. The character actor Denmark Okochi developed his Okochi Sanso Garden in Arashiyama. Other photos are from the Tenryu-Ji Temple in Kyoto important to the Rinza School of Zen with centuries old gardens surrounding buildings rebuilt in the late 19th century with the 1339 originals long gone. Another World Heritage site.

No Jean, The group had moved on so no time to inquire or buy. But googling just now, Japanese have a fondness for bugs and some raise large beetles. Also, the Long-horn prefer Cherry and peach trees and have come in from China. In 20 years the cherry tree population may be devastated. Ick.
