Kyoto: Temples and Kimonas

The Maiko, junior Geisha, below was a rare sight until the last night when my iPhone died, then there were many. 

The sculptured trees take lots of snipping. 

 

There were dozens of lucky charms for all sorts of specific wishes and needs. 

Why the red aprons on statues? Something about the statues having feelings and these ojizosama quell sickness or demons. The red somehow helps. Unrelated to fashion as below. 

Zen Buddhist gardens. 

Philosophers Walk below. Above the dress may be a centuries old style but a smart phone the standard accoutrement.

  1. As nice as it was to be there in January, I love seeing all of this in cherry blossom season. From the pictures it doesn’t look too horribly crowded.
