Hoi An, World Heritage Site

Very charming historic town that had been the main port until it silted up. The French made Nah Trang the primary port. Most old buildings on the heritage side of the river are tourist shops and some restaurants. A market building has lots of food for locals and a shop in the clothes market made a skirt in four hours. The highlight is at night when the town is lit by silk lanterns and people put lanterns in paper dishes from boats or the shore  to float down the river for luck. Mine immediately capsized but lucky enough to be on this trip.

This is the oldest woman in town at 99. She lives in an old house with her extended family and was charming and humorous as interpreted by our guide.

On the drive to town next to our rest stop, these mysterious sculptures were explained in pantomime as motorbike parking stops.

In one of several Chinese meeting halls, these 3D paintings were wonderful.

The still below in the country burns eucalyptus leaves to process oil sold in bottles to cure all that ails you.

Several cooking lessons including this formal one with frying spring roles above and below you can guess which were made by Marty and which by me. He does other things better–like carrying suitcases and finding room keys!
