As if a sculptor created a fantasy town. We are staying in a trulli house. The round roofs are laid without mortar and were easy to dismantle supposedly to avoid trouble with the ruler. Some have ancient white symbols. Often the top is different. 

Symbols explained…below that one of the first to use mortar starting in 1797 when it became a royal city under Naples. Home ownership was allowed and in 1806 feudalism was abolished. No more serfs.
